My adventures in backyard metal casting began in 2009. I am currently just getting started - I will update this page soon with pictures of my recently completed first totally homemade blast furnace. It seems to work very well and can run on propane, waste motor oil, waste vegetable oil, biodiesel, or just about any other flammable liquid or gas. The idea is that it should burn so hot and so completely that it produces no detectable smoke or odor when operating. I only recently completed its first test firing and it looks promising but I'm not completely done yet, I still need to create the lid and crucible. I can say that this thing got extremely hot and had wonderful cyclone action. I will be sure to take pictures and video the next time I fire it. I also plan to list details of how I built my burner, how much the parts cost, etc. It's also worth noting that I will be using this burner for other projects and not just metal casting, I am hoping it can be used to run a 55 gallon drum pasteurizer that I am still building, in fact this is really the primary reason I built the burner.
